Davey Johnson has lost his mind

You send Shane Victorino to the plate in that situation. Pitiful at bat by Longoria, at worst we should be down by one run.

And starting Jeter at SS instead of Rollins must have bit them now. E6 according to gamecast.

Seriously, I hope we either drop this or send our best players. It's embarrassing to lose in this, there are two things, and two things only we should dominate the world in, they are baseball and basketball. Where is Cliff Lee, Dustin Pedroria, Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Grady Sizemore, Josh Hamilton, AJ Burnett, and CC Sabathia? Put these guys on the field mercy rule every team in the tournament and show the world how to play baseball. It makes me sick to think that in Japan they actually think they are better at baseball than us.

This is one of the reasons why I was going back and forth with ID on this one. This just isn't good. The tourney lasts way too long. They had to call close to a hundred players to field a team. Next time they will have to call double that due to injuries and players griping about it.
They either need to change it up some, or just dump it all together.

We treat it as a joke the rest of the world treats it as the World Series.

The rest of the world takes the World Cup seriously too.

But honestly, as Americans we have nothing to gain from it. As you said, we SHOULD be the best, and not by a slim margin either. Look at the upsets by people like Switzerland, they have nothing to lose from this, and can only benefit.

maybe not winning will push the US to do better, ie US Basketball, which makes me so proud to be a US basketball fan, because we showed that once we decide to win, we win. we could do the same in this if we truly wanted to.

the world cup is different, we suck, whereas the rest of the world is better.

could we be great? yeah, because of teh athletes, are we ever gonna be the best? hell no

Never once did I say the WBC was perfect. It does need serious tweaking (like sending our elite). I just see the potential to be something special in the WBC (with some changes in leadership both on the field and off)

Re: Davey Johnson has lost his mind

We'll continue to lose in this, because they just always play better for numerous reasons. Of course we have the talent, but they play with more heart. They want to make their country proud and they play every game with 100 percent effort, we just don't because they don't care. I understand about the possibility of injury, but its because of those fat contracts that they're really worried about....which is definitely understandable. But most of those players don't have to worry about that. So I agree completely with duckmeat, just scrap it or we just don't play in it - which would probably end it anyway because all of them want to beat the US in anything. I don't think they care the least bit about it and a lot of people don't, it's not the Olympics. The Olympics is a larger scale and its the best of the best, we just scrap together anyone who wants to play in the WBC. Its not anywheres close to the significance of the Olympics, at all. Those teams we play against have more heart and are a lot more disciplined then our players will ever be, that's why we'll continue to lose and they'll continue to embarrass us.
